Leonor Fini Paintings 1931-1987 brings together a selection of the artist’s pivotal paintings; many being exhibited for the first time since their initial debuts.

In this catalog, I have endeavored to convey a bit of Fini’s persona, as well as the placement of each painting into a perspective as to when (and sometimes why) it was painted. The following are personal observations and extrapolations based on my relationship with Leonor Fini and my knowledge of her work.

Unfortunately, I did not know Leonor until the last eighteen years of her life. My conclusions are based on my experiences of our friendship during that short period. In addition, I have called on, and am grateful for many breakfasts at Café de Flore in Paris with ‘Kot’ Jelenski; conversations with Richard Overstreet, Arlette Souhami, Rafael Martinez, Juan Bautista Pineiro, Michel Henricot, Lambert Monet, Jacques Carpentier, Leo Castelli, her cousin Oscar deMejo, Carol Curci and the many others who shared their memories and thoughts about Leonor.
