Felicien
Rops
Felicien Rops (1833-1898) was a Belgian engraver, lithographer
and painter whose graphic depictions kept him on the edge of legal prosecution
for 'blasphemy and salacious depravity'. A draftsman of great skill, Rops
shared with the other three artists an enormous natural appetite for life
and sexual adventure. Many of his works featured in this exhibition have
rarely, if ever, been exhibited in New York and come from possibly the
largest collection of Rops art outside his native Belgium.
