In the early decades of the 20th Century, there was a romantic explosion of whimsical fashions. For the first time in the history of elegant dress, anything could be done- all spearheaded by new fashion giants, and grand magazines like Harper's Bazaar. Sadly, many of these ideas were of such pure fantasy they could only exist on paper; especially as the new trends often required as many physical concessions as did the garments of the Victorians. Even Evangeline's life-size flourish of Erte elan requires some anatomical compromise.
