A recurring theme in my work seems to be early 20th Century fashions and personalities; probably because that's when the personally elegant and sensual became a part of American life, and it burned more brightly then because it was so new. So, here is my impression of Josephine Baker in a Erte-inspired cascade of silver chains. She was never, of course, a model. She burned as brightly as her age. With her heady and oblique mix of sensual beauty, exotica and humor, she was always the master of her audience, as well as of her chains.
